Calvaire Fabrice du Welz 2005

Marc Stevens is an entertainer, and like always he’s driving from one place to another in his van. When he leaves his latest gig, it starts pooring rain outside and Marc is driving on a little road in the forest. All of a sudden he needs to stop because something just ran over the road. When he tries to restart his van again it won’t start anymore. The man who ran over the road tells him that he needs to leave his van there and that he knows a nice hostel not too far from there. He arrives at Monsieur Bartel’s hostel and gets a room. The next morning Monsieur Bartel got Marc Stevens his van, and without asking Marc he just starts looking in the van and through his stuff.  As weird as it is, Marc kind of accepts it, and he asks if he can call someone to pick him up and help him out. Monsieur Bartel tells Marc that the phone is dead and that the nearest village is really far away etc etc… This is where it all begins…

It seems that monsieur Bartel thinks that Marc is his wife Gloria. His wife that left him. So Monsieur Bartel will do anything and i really mean anything to keep Marc with him.

I must say that the movie has a lot of shocking scenes, but i do think it is a great movie. The way Fabrice du Welz portraits Belgium, is unbelievably good. It is the exact right and creepy atmosphere he creates when Marc ends up in the little village with Monsieur Bartel. I also have to admit that i am a great fan of  Philippe Nahon, i think he’s a great actor, and he plays one of the other locals of the village. His first appearence in the movie is in the scene at the bar. Which is actually the most fascinating and the best scene of the movie. Monsieur Bartel ends up at the bar to tell everybody they have to leave his Gloria (Marc) alone and it ends up in all the men in the bar that start to dance at this really creepy piano music that’s been played by one of the locals. They start dancing like zombies, and it is the weirdest thing ever, but very fascinating at the same time.

This movie is full of real, ultra violent and in your face scenes and situations.

When i was done watchingthe movie i had a feeling of disgust but at the same a feeling of fullfillment, because it took me to another level/world!

Les traces d'Emmanuelle

"Emmanuelle finds herself in all these crazy situations... Half-child, half-woman, half-sophisticated, half-naive, she has a warm heart, but it has a glaze of ice. Several times she gets herself into trouble...."
